Adele Symonds – On Reviewing – A blog post

Adele Symonds – On Reviewing – A blog post

I am a writer – or trying to be.

I am a reviewer and sometime critique with no training.

I do not do this because I feel I am any better than anybody else, I do not do this because I believe I know any more than anyone else – I don’t.

I review and critique purely because I love to read and write.

I love what I do.

I know what I like.

I hope that I can, in some small way, help budding writer’s, good writer’s and great writer’s to take one more look at their work and find something to improve.  The aim being that they can become even greater.

My own syntax, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, character creation, plot development, and any number of other things I am likely to comment on, are not always right.  In fact they are probably downright diabolical now following two severe seizures a week and a half ago.

But while ever people want me to review their work I will do so.

Even people who do NOT want me to review their work will be reviewed because this is how I learn and improve my own craft.  Everything I read gets reviewed.

I have just received ‘On Writing’ by Stephen King as a gift.

So watch out Mr. King – review to come. Ha! Ha!

  1. Like! Very much! Hope you are feeling better over Christmas. XX

  2. Adele,

Keep reviewing! I need to get better about reviewing everything I read! I certainly learn and grow much more when I do a review of other people’s works. I also learn from other reviewer’s comments. It frustrates me when reviewers say that they will not post a review unless they liked the book, because then I cannot learn anything from the reviews. Hope you heal soon!

    • Heidi,

Thanks for the encouragement. I will definitely be slowing down and taking my time but I will not stop. My recovery will be long, slow and difficult but it has to be done right or foundations will crumble again in the future. Keep writing and stay open to well meaning criticism, you have the right attitude to become a great writer.

      Adele
