Personal Book Review – Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
What an emotional journey this books takes you on!
The story is told mainly in the words of Louise (Lou) Clark with occasional chapters from other characters viewpoints.
I rarely cry whilst reading but this novel had me sobbing a couple of times and left me with silently shed tears coursing down my cheeks at other times. This is an excellent book but it may not be a good idea to read it when you are at a low point in your life because it is so emotionally charged.
I really liked this book, the characters literally jumped off the page and entered my living room, they are so realistic from their good points to their bad ones. The emotional involvement of all the characters is superb and the range and depth of responses was true to the plot.
The plot was magnificent. A very sporty, young man has gets run over and ends up a quadriplegic. The novel starts 2 years later. Will’s mother employs Lou to be a companion for Will, to attempt to cheer him up, get him out of the house and show him that he is able to have a good quality of life. What Lou is not told is that Will has booked an appointment for 6 months time in Dignitas. Can Lou change will’s mind? Does he go through with it?
This is a truly heart-wrenching novel which explores some really tough and controversial issues.
