The concept of this novel appealed to me at the start.
The young Mary Russell bumps into the retired Sherlock Holmes and a relationship of tutor/pupil and father/daughter ensues. Holmes was stunned to find a mind on a par with his own and is sucked out of retirement in his attempt to hone her skills.
The cases they take on are neat and concise and typical of the cases Holmes used to take on. This can be read by anybody who has prior knowledge of Holmes or by total Holmes novices as this book in no way detracts from Arthur Conan Doyle’s originals.
I really enjoyed this book and give it 4 stars, not quite a 5 in my eyes as it didn’t blow me away but still a very good book to read.
