Book Review -The Gift: A Stesti Mystery Novel by Bruce H. Kubec
Publisher: Black Oyster Publishing Company, Inc. 2011
ISBN: 978-1-4664-5371-5
This book has an interesting plot, the main character, Moose, has a certain amount of intuition for when a decision or a situation is right or wrong. He wins the lottery and becomes a mult-millionaire which is actually something that he didn’t want to happen because he holds the opinion that the more money you have the more problems you also have, also he doesn’t want the nice, comfortable life he has to change. He is involved in a freak accident and in the course of repairing his skull the metal plate that is inserted acts as an amplifier to his intuition and to the hearing in his right ear.
There are many sub-plots which all inter-connect seemingly without effort and each sub-plot is interesting in its own right. I have no problems with the plot lines of this book, they are excellent.
The characters are life-like and I could relate to them all in one way or another, some I liked and some I didn’t as in the real world.
The book ends with many possibilities being left open for development in future books and I am sure you will want to read more about the characters portrayed.
On the downside I thought the pace was a little slow despite the amount of content. A lot of the book felt like scene-setting rather than the main event.
I anticipate the second book to be even more exciting with further character development and a unique role for Moose and his new-found gifts.
Please bear in mind that although this book is already published it is not yet the finished, marketable edition, there is much editing to be done and once this is complete and the book re-published it will be a very good book to read or gift to a friend.
As the book is at present I give it 3/5 stars – I liked it and I would recommend it.
