Book Review – She and I by Amanda. S. John
published in 2012 by Feedaread Publishing
This is the story of Sarah and her two teenage daughters, Lindsay and Jenna. It is told through the alternating voices of Sarah and Lindsay.
Sarah is in her second marriage which is a complete sham, not much better than her first which was violent, Sarah went from partner that violent to one that was indifferent.
There are shocks galore in this book relating to all 3 female protagonists as well as grandad, Michael(the second husband) and various love interests.
The characterisation is brilliant, every character including the minor ones has a unique personality and leap off the page as complete entities. Amanda. s. John has a direct style which works very well and the plot scurries along at quite a clip.
I read this book in one morning as I didn’t want to put it down, there seem to be cliff-hangers spread throughout the book so that there is never a good point to put the book down and come back to it. This is just masterful.
I definitely want to read more by this author, as a debut novel I am extremely impressed.
Definite 5/5 stars – I loved it.
