Book Club Review – Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Every member of our book club loved this book, it is extremely emotional 75% of  the group cried at certain parts of the book, there are also moments when it makes you laugh out loud.

Lou is hired as a companion for Will after an accident had left him a  quadriplegic 2 years earlier.  The dynamics of their relationship changes significantly through the book as do the characters.  All the characters and their reactions/responses are very real which combine with the plot to create the emotional responses in the reader.

Will has decided that his life is not what it was meant to be and has booked  an appointment, at Dignitas in Switzerland, for the implementation of his assisted Suicide.  Lou’s job is to convince Will that his life is worth living.  They gradually fall in love.

The members of the group did all correctly predict the end but this did not detract from the overall effect of the book.

We would all like to read more by this author, particularly her new book which is due out in September ‘The Girl You Left Behind’ we are hoping this is a sequel.

Personal Read 5/5 – I loved it

  1. I loved this book to Adele and will be looking out for more from here in charity shops in the future. I am currently addicted to Barbara Erkskine after buying someof her books second hand. Keep up the good work with your book club and reviews :0)

  2. I will have to read this. I love books that make me cry!

    • It is excellent, I highly recommend it. There were times when I had silent tears rolling down my face and other times when I had to stop because I was wracked with sobs, I have never got so involved in a book as I did with this one.
