book review – Duma Key by Stephen King

Publisher: Hodder and Stoughton – 2011

ISBN 978-1-444-70790-8

This is the first Stephen King book which I have read and it was so much better than I had expected.

Where to begin?

It was amazing!

The simple way in which the complex plot was written made this novel easy to read and follow without ever really knowing how it was going to end.

The relationships between the characters was realistic and the portrayal of characters suffering from head injuries and Alzheimer’s seemed very accurate, although the Island (Duma Key) has some very strange effects on the main characters.

The plot is intriguing and draws you in from the very first and the images the author creates just leap of the page.

The paranormal experiences on Duma Key are quite unique and I frequently read late into the night because I didn’t want to wait till morning to carry on with the book.

I really entered into the lives of the people portrayed and cared about what happened to them.

I will definitely read some more books by Stephen King.

My star rating is 5/5 – I loved it.

  1. Good thing he’s written about 60 more for you to chose from. 🙂 I’d recommend going back to his earlier work, to get a sense of him as he was first getting well known. “Salem’s Lot” is my personal favorite.

    • Thanks for the advice Daniel, I have a copy of Bag of Bones already so may try that next but I will definitely read Salem’s Lot after that to see why you think it is so good. I will be reading some different books first though before I get to my next King novel.
