book review: Divergent by Veronica Roth

published by Harper Collins in 2011

ISBN: 978-0-00-742041-4

I loved the premise of this book, the world is split into 5 factions – Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Candour and Amity.

All the factions are run differently and cater for different personalities.

You stay in the faction which you are born into until you are sixteen then you sit a series of aptitude tests to determine which faction suits you best.  You then get to choose which factions you are going to join for the rest of your life.  Big decision!

Tris’ results are inconclusive which makes her a ‘divergent’ this has to be kept a secret as this is a highly dangerous thing to be.  Tris does not fit just into one character she could fit happily into any one of three.

The character’s are sound and you will love some and dislike others.  There is quite a lot of action and adventure and it all works well.

I really liked this book but didn’t love it, I can’t pinpoint why, it just didn’t seem as good as some other dystopian novels I have read.

Star rated 4/5 I really liked it.
