writing exercise – Yesterday….
Here is a writing exercise I recently did. The task was to think of something that happened the day before and write about it starting with Yesterday I….. the idea is to just write, not think, until you have completed one A4 page but try to actually end the piece. So here it is.
Yesterday I had a visit from my daughter.
It was so good to see her after a break of 5 weeks. Nothing much seems to have changed, she doesn’t appear to have grown an awful lot, she doesn’t seem to have gained or lost weight. She does seem generally happier living with her dad but it is wonderful to see how excited she is to see us all as she walks through the door.
Our relationship is the one thing that has definitely changed the most. Our conversations are no longer mainly one-sided with monosyllabic answers, they are real conversations with give and take from both of us. They also seem to be much deeper and more adult in content. She seems to appreciate me more now that she doesn’t spend as much time with me. My fears that she would withdraw and not connect with me as much were, thankfully, totally unfounded.
She adores her little brothers and spent considerable time playing with them and entertaining them. She even commented to that she loves her other brother, she just finds him irritating. This is a complete turnaround as 4 months ago she would have said that she hated him and would prefer it if he was dead.
I sincerely hope that she continues to grow in these positive areas and that our relationship continues to improve.
This is one instance in which I am delighted that I was wrong.
