book review – Oceans Of Red Vol 1 by Willow Cross

This is a self-published short 67 page e-book.

A seal that priests were guarding gets broken in a thunderstorm and unleashes a dark evil – blonde haired girl who has the power to control anyone whose body is taken over by her demons.  When your body is taken over you have red eyes.

The Admiral is father to Remy one of the major players in the book, she is a demon slayer as sorts although only the bodies the demons have inhabited actually the die the demons are returned whence they came to go out and re-inhabit somebody else.

Shane is Remy’s younger sister who Remy is always trying to protect.

This family is working with the priests to establish a plan to get rid of the demons for good – but they need ‘the shroud’.

Sam and Greg are the other 2 members of the team.

They have developed an antidote which when given will evict the demon out of a body but leave the person with certain special powers – the plan is to get all four team members infected by demons and then cleansed by the antidote so that they have this extra advantage.  Things don’t go exactly to plan though.

This is a good dystopian novel with some good characters, there is a sequel – Oceans of red Vol 2 but I think they should have been combined into one book as this is just too short.  Just as you really start getting into the storyline and the characters lives the book ends and you have to wait until you have the next book.

At only 67 pages long it would not be too big a book if the author were to do this.

For a self-published book the editing is good, nothing major jumped out at me.

If Oceans of Red was one book I would read the whole thing but with it being split into two volumes I probably won’t be reading Vol 2 as I have so many other books that I just can’t wait to read.

I give this book 3/5 stars, I liked it.
